(Feb. 8) – Emory senior Spiros Ferderigos totaled 19 points and Seth Kramer added 14 but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles came out on the short end of a tough 90-85 overtime decision to No. 10-ranked Brandeis Friday evening.
(Mar. 2) - Junior Anthony Fernandez led the Emory scoring effort with 22 points in a 76-65 setback to Case Western Reserve University.
The 6-foot-4 Fernandez hit nine-of-18 from the field and all four of his free throw opportunities against the Spartans in registering his 15th double-figure scoring performance of the season and seventh of 20 or more points.
On the year, Fernandez led the Eagles in scoring (14.0 ppg) and was second in rebounding (4.9 rpg). He was the club’s top point producer in 12 outings and top board man on five occasions.
Chad Hixon is a junior at Emory University and has completed his first season as a member of the basketball program.
Chad turned in a fine 2008-09 campaign for the Eagles that culminated with an honorable-mention spot on the All-UAA Team. Hixon, a starter in 21 of 25 games, averaged a team-leading 27.2 minutes per outing and ended the season No. 2 on the squad in scoring (9.9 ppg) and first in rebounding with his 6.2 per-game showing in that category placing him third in the league. He enjoyed a strong second half of the season, registering 10 double-figure scoring contests in the last 11 games, while posting double digits a total of 16 times. He either led or shared for team scoring honors on seven occasions including a season-high 20 points against Carnegie Mellon (Jan. 30). He paced the Eagles in rebounds in 12 games, including six of the last seven contests of the year.
Prior to his arrival to the Eagles' program, Hixon enjoyed a stellar two-year career at Oxford College at Emory where he was coached by Roderick Stubbs. He earned NJCAA Second Team All-American honors in 2006-07 and 2007-08 and broke over 16 Oxford College single season and career records.
