2008 SOFTBALL RECAP

The 2008 season marked the 10th year of Emory softball as an intercollegiate sport and the squad did not disappoint as the Eagles battled to the program’s ninth consecutive winning campaign.


EMORY SOFTBALL TEAM DROPS 3-0 DECISION TO URSINUS IN NCAA ACTION -- SEASON ENDS WITH 29-12 RECORD

(May 9) - The Emory softball team saw its season come to an end Friday afternoon as it came out on the short end of a 3-0 verdict to Ursinus in NCAA Regional play in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Ursinus pitcher Lauren Davis kept the Emory bats in check, holding the Eagles to five hits while striking out six in earning the complete-game win. Junior Alyson Moler picked up two of Emory's safeties in the game. The Bears scored all their runs in the fourth inning on the strength of four hits along with one Emory fielding miscue.

Junior Shanon Andersen went the distance on the mound for Emory, allowing seven hits and fanning five. The loss was the Eagles's second in the double-elimination format and closed out their year at 29-12.

EMORY SOFTBALL UPSETS SECOND-SEEDED CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT IN NCAA TOURNAMENT

(May 9) In an elimination game in the Fayetteville Regional of the NCAA Tournament, fifth-seeded Emory University upset second-seeded Christopher Newport University (Va.) 4-3 in eight innings.  With two outs in the top of the eighth inning Cassie Walsh tripled and Zara Louy picked up a go-ahead RBI single to give Emory the lead.  Shanon Andersen earned the complete-game victory on the mound.  Emory will play again at 4:00 PM today, facing the winner of the Ursinus/ LaGrange game.

(May 6) - The Emory softball team makes it third straight and seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament in the 10-year history of the program on Thursday when it battles LaGrange in an opening-round game.

(May 5) -The Emory University softball team has earned the program’s third consecutive NCAA Tournament bid and will open postseason play as one of seven teams that will be competing in the Fayetteville, North Carolina, Regional which will be hosted by Methodist College.  It is the Eagles’ seventh NCAA appearance in the last eight years.

Emory is seeded No. 4 in the double-elimination tourney and will take on No. 5 seed LaGrange College in its opening game on Thursday (May 8) at 10:00 a.m. The Regionals are slated to take place May 8-12.   More information will be released later today.

Last season, Emory posted a 4-0 record in the Fayetteville Regional enabling it to advance to the Division III College World Series.

(Apr. 23)The Emory softball team closed out the regular season with a split of a doubleheader at Piedmont College Tuesday night.  The Eagles posted a 9-0 triumph in the opener before Piedmont held on to claim a 3-2 decision in the nightcap.

EMORY SOFTBALL TO PLAY IN GREENSBORO INVITATIONAL

(Mar. 20) – The Emory softball team (12-6), fresh off a win vs. Colorado College on Thursday, will play in the Greensboro College Invitational this Friday and Saturday (Mar. 21-22).

The Eagles will battle host Greensboro (9-7-2) at noon on Friday before battling No. 3-ranked Lynchburg (16-2) at 2:00 p.m. On Saturday, Emory will tangle with Lynchburg at 10 a.m., before meeting Greensboro at noon.

The Invitational will be held at the Springwood Athletic Complex in Burlington, NC.
