EMORY MEN’S BASKETBALL NAMES WILL ROBERSON ASSISTANT COACH

(July 1) - Emory University head men’s basketball coach Jason Zimmerman has announced the appointment of Will Roberson as assistant coach.


EMORY GOLFER JEREMY EVANS MAKES 54-HOLE CUT AT DOGWOOD INVITATIONAL

(June 28) – Emory University’s Jeremy Evans recorded a three-under par 69 on Friday and made the 54-hole cut at the Dogwood Invitational. Through three rounds Evans had a score of 213 (67-77-69) and advanced into Saturday's final round by one stroke.

Evans is one of 36 players who will be teeing it up for the final round of the one of the nation's top amateur tournaments which is being played at the
6,833-yard, par-72 Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta.

The field was pared to 36 players on Friday from 90 that started play on Wednesday.


EMORY GOLFER JEREMY EVANS OFF TO FINE START AT DOGWOOD INVITATIONAL

(June 26) Emory University’s Jeremy Evans got off to a solid start at the 42nd annual Dogwood Invitational on Wednesday and is tied for sixth place in one of nation’s top amateur tournaments.  The Dogwood Invitational is being played at the 6,833-yard, par-72 Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta.

Evans fired a five-under par 67 during the opening round, tying him with five other players.  Pacing the 90-player after 18 holes is New Zealand native Danny Lee, the 2007 Dogwood Invitational runner-up, who finished with a blazing 63.

Evans, along with playing partners Glenn Northcutt (Auburn University) and Derek Rende (UT-Chattanooga), are slated to tee off on Thursday at 12:12 p.m.

A cut will be made to the low 36 players following Friday’s round with the 72-hole event  slated to conclude on Saturday.

PFISTER AND ROTH EARN ABCA ALL-REGION HONORS

(May 19) Seniors Frank Pfister and Joe Roth, of the Emory University baseball team, each earned all-region honors for their performances during the 2008 season.  Pfister was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/ Rawlings All-Region Second Team, while Roth was named an honorable mention.  In addition, Pfister was named the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove third baseman for the South Region.

(May 13) The fourth-ranked Emory Women’s Tennis Team was defeated in the quarterfinals round of the NCAA Tournament, as the Eagles fell 5-2 to Denison University (Ohio).  The Eagles took two of the three doubles matches, but dropped four of the singles matches in the defeat.  More information to come shortly…

EMORY SOFTBALL TEAM DROPS 3-0 DECISION TO URSINUS IN NCAA ACTION -- SEASON ENDS WITH 29-12 RECORD

(May 9) - The Emory softball team saw its season come to an end Friday afternoon as it came out on the short end of a 3-0 verdict to Ursinus in NCAA Regional play in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Ursinus pitcher Lauren Davis kept the Emory bats in check, holding the Eagles to five hits while striking out six in earning the complete-game win. Junior Alyson Moler picked up two of Emory's safeties in the game. The Bears scored all their runs in the fourth inning on the strength of four hits along with one Emory fielding miscue.

Junior Shanon Andersen went the distance on the mound for Emory, allowing seven hits and fanning five. The loss was the Eagles's second in the double-elimination format and closed out their year at 29-12.

(May 9) At a time of year when most universities send their athletes home for the summer, the Emory University Women’s Soccer team will take part in a once-in-a-lifetime experience during the offseason, travelling to Costa Rica to play in four games against some of the country’s top women’s teams.

(May 9) In an elimination game in the Fayetteville Regional of the NCAA Tournament, fifth-seeded Emory University upset second-seeded Christopher Newport University (Va.) 4-3 in eight innings.  With two outs in the top of the eighth inning Cassie Walsh tripled and Zara Louy picked up a go-ahead RBI single to give Emory the lead.  Shanon Andersen earned the complete-game victory on the mound.  Emory will play again at 4:00 PM today, facing Ursinus College.

(May 5) - The No. 20-ranked Emory University golf team has been selected to compete in the 2008 NCAA Division III Golf Championships.  The Eagles are one of 35 teams vying for the team title that will be played May 13-16 at the Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Georgia.

Serving as co-hosts of this year’s Division III National Championships will be Emory University and the Gwinnett County Sports Commission.

(May 5) -The Emory University softball team has earned the program’s third consecutive NCAA Tournament bid and will open postseason play as one of seven teams that will be competing in the Fayetteville, North Carolina, Regional which will be hosted by Methodist College.  It is the Eagles’ seventh NCAA appearance in the last eight years.

Emory is seeded No. 4 in the double-elimination tourney and will take on No. 5 seed LaGrange College in its opening game on Thursday (May 8) at 10:00 a.m. The Regionals are slated to take place May 8-12.   More information will be released later today.

Last season, Emory posted a 4-0 record in the Fayetteville Regional enabling it to advance to the Division III College World Series.


THIRD-RANKED EMORY MEN'S TENNIS TEAM KEEPS ROLLING WITH 5-3 WIN OVER BOWDOIN

(May 4) - The No. 3-ranked Emory men's tennis team earned a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Sunday with a come-from-behind 5-3 triumph in the third round over No. 11 Bowdoin.

The Eagles trailed by a 2-1 margin after doubles play and fell behind by a 3-1 count early in singles action before storming back. The win was the team's 11th straight dual victory and raised EU's record to 17-6.

Next up for Emory will be a match against No. 9 Kenyon on May 13. The quarterfinals, semifinals and championship will be held in Lewiston, Maine, and hosted by Bates College.

#3 EMORY MEN'S TENNIS TEAM ADVANCES TO THIRD ROUND OF THE NCAA TOURNAMENT

(May 3) - The No. 3-ranked Emory men's tennis team blew by Salve Regina in its NCAA Tournament opening match Saturday evening, topping the Seahawks by a 5-0 margin.
The match was moved to the Woodlands Club in Falmouth, Maine, due to rain and was pushed back from a 2:00 p.m. to a 6:00 p.m. start.

The Eagles (16-6) advance to third round where they will play host and No. 11-ranked Bowdoin College on Sunday beginning at noon at the Portland Athletic Club

(Apr. 20) Emory University’s Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams each recorded a third-place finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.  On the men’s side, Frederick Linton won the 200-meter dash in an automatic qualifying and UAA record time of 21.10 seconds, and the 400-meter dash in a UAA record and provisional qualifying time of 48.17 seconds, and the men’s 4x400-meter relay team set a UAA record with a time of 3:16.32.  For the women, Rebecca Willet won the 800-meter run, Tracy Whittaker won the pole vault, and Jordan Beall won the long jump.
